WeatherMin - Desktop Weather! App Reviews

WeatherMin

WeatherMin is one of those small things that can make a big difference in daily living. No more having to visit a weather page to find out what to wear before I go out. WeatherMin has two big pluses: appearance and ease of use. I love that I can personalize the appearance by choosing any color. I also love how easy it is to choose and change the option I want to see on my desktop. There are five options with varying amounts of information. The options are listed under “Theme” and can be changed with a simple click on my trackpad. This app looks great, tells me exactly what I want to know, and was installed with ease (even by this non-techie). Its a five-star app in my opinion.

Great app!! Hard to get around!

Once I set up mine I clicked the option to keep the icon in the dock off. A few days later I decided I wanted to change an aspect of it and now i cant get to its preferences to change anything!! Great little app which I definitely recommend I just hope future updates solves the problem!

Great!

Neat and unobtrusive, the themes are exactly what I want to see in a weather app.

Great little app!

I like the minimalist approach, and it works great here. I normally just want to get the basic information on the weather, get in & out and move on, and weathermin is great for that. Very cool!

Finally!

A weather widget app that doesnt look like some huge bubble floating over my desktop!

Nice and unobtrusive

Simple weather desklet.

great alternative to using geektool...

if you want weather on your desktop. which i do. theres at least one type (forcast instead of forecast), but i i like it and am looking forward to updates and more themes.

Slick!

Minimalistic and surprisingly versatile. If you spend any sort of time on the desktop, this is very handy. Blends right in, but its still easy to spot. Well done!

For real?

I purchased this application based on the 5 star reviews. I honestly think that all of these reviews were written by the writer of the program. I am amazed that someone would charge $5.00 for a program that "simply" shows the temperature and a one or two word listing of the weather. Currently my screen shows 33 degrees, fair. It says that at 10pm (one hour ago) the temperature "will be" 24 degrees. Probably the worst "investment" I have ever made! It also says that at 11:00 p.m. the temperature "will be" 24 degrees. It is now 11:22 p.m. and the temperature is 32 degrees by my instruments. I would really like to know why anyone would rate this above zero stars is way beyond me! This is the first program I have purchased from the new OSX app store and will probably be my last. I have purchased over 200 from the iOs store and have been happy with 99% of them.

Amazingly Beautiful

Ive had this app for a few weeks now & have to say that I love its minimalistic design. I cannot praise it enough & recommend it for any situation desktop. The readings are accurate & often match apples own weather widget in dashboard. One of the best purchases Ive made in the Mac App store so far!

NEEDS UPDATING TO WORK PROPERLY in LION

If you hide the app icon when running, you can no longer right click on the weather image to show preferences or even to move it. Otherwise I love this app. Just needs an update

Disappeared after Lion update

After updating to Lion, WeatherMin was nowhere to be found, and since I had the dock icon hidden, I couldnt do anything to make it appear (I knew it was running via Activity Monitor). Heres how I fixed it: * quit WeatherMin via Activity Monitor * in ~/Library/Preferences, I opened the prefs file com.DowntownSoftwareHouse.WeatherMin.plist * checked the WMShowDockIconKey boolean key * relaunched WeatherMin. Still couldnt see the weather info, but had the dock icon back Once I had the dock icon back, I found that it was set to be assigned to no desktops. After setting it to all, it was back in view. The 3-star rating is just for this version in Lion. It needs an update to resolve this, and other mentioned issues.

out dated

Dont get this until they have up dated it for Lion.

Where is the update?

For a $5 application an update is long overdue. Most of not all of this app can be replicated in GeekTool, which is free, so to have paid for an app that wont be updated is hogwash. The Dev tweeted late July that a fix was days away. Its now almost //October//.… edit: its November. And the Dev does not respond to emails.

Useless

Doesnt work at all for Lion users. Total fail, should pulled from the app store for listing incorrect requirements/compatibility on the application.

Great! Geektool for the rest of us haha

The only thing i would add is a way to change the font so i can match that of geektool and also allow me (the user) to change the transparency of the name of my city. I dont like how its transparent and it doesnt exactly match my geektool theme (which I love). But it was exactly what i needed to pimp out my desktop, thankya.

Handy little application

Nice weather app. Much better than the stock weather widget; I particularly like the hour-by-hour theme. Automatically updates to my current location when I travel. Blends in well and works great if you have a trackpad gesture to reveal the desktop

Be careful, you can receive information about US weather only

Be careful, you can receive information about US weather only, but there are no disclaimers or information about that on the programs description page!!! Tricky guys.

Be careful about enabling auto location detection

I enabled auto location detection on my Mac Pro (running 10.7.3), which then caused the app to crash immediately after starting up. Not sure if this is uniquie to my machine, which may have trouble determning location due to the nature of my internet connection. Anyway, after deleting and reinstalling the app, which did not help, I deleted the support folder for this app (user -> Library -> Application Support -> Weathermin -> delete Weathermin folder). Afterward, the app stopped crashing and I was able to input my location manually.

Perfect

Revising my one-star review since new version fixes crash. This app is perfect for me. Quick glance at the screen for current conditions without even having to bother with dashboard.
